Default can't reload firmware..

My Zen is plugged into the computer and says that it's docked in the Recovery Mode. It is recognized by the device manager, and the Creative mp3 recovery tool, but when it gets to the part where Im supposed to update the firmware, it says its not connected. I have no idea what to do.

Welcome to the show Otisbrown. What operating system are you running? Have you used the player on this computer before? Did you try the reset hole? Is this the first problem you've had?

It was acting up before, it wouldn't connect for some reason. It would charge occasionally and say it was docked, but it would never let me transfer music. At that time I was running XP but recently my computer crashed and Im running Vista now. It charged up with no problem and I used it happily today, but I came home to upload more music to it to realize it wasn't being recognized. So after sifting through pages of possible solutions and none of them working I decided to start it up in Recovery Mode, do the disk clean-up, format, and re-install the firmware. So I do all that but when I got to the point to re-install the firmware it says that my zen isn't connected. But when I go to device manager it says its connected.

What firmware version were you running and what firmware did you get to replace it.

Can you test the cord with another device? And make sure the port and dongle are not damaged.

And the dongle looks good? You did have the ZVM working on this computer right, but you never transfered music with the Vista machine

Yeah, it was working before. I didn't get to use it for like 5 months so it lay dead for a while because an ex girlfriend refused to give it back to me. Upon getting it back I charged it up on my computer and was able to transfer music once, but never again.

Well I just tried to do everything on the XP. Same results. I go to update firmware and it still says its not connected. But the computer recognized that I connected the zen and installed the drivers automatically fine.

and I checked through the thread and nothing seemed to do the trick..

That link said "You must use a XP computer running WMP10 to update the firmware. "I had the same thing happen with a Zen Micro. We changed to Windows media player 10 and it worked and we updated the firmware. Good news, there are quite a few updates in all the firmware versions you missed. Bad news, odds are Creative won't be releasing any more. Keep me posted on your results.

Yeah, for what it is worth, if you are having detection problems when updating/reloading the firmware in WinXP, make sure you are running WMP10 instead of WMP11.

Microsoft's Knowledge Base article on how to remove WMP11 on XP here.

Good luck!
