All the reviews and specs said that the fuze has approx. 24 hour battery life. I've used it for 3 hours after a full charge(the player is pretty brand new too) and I'm already down to 63% percent. Or is it just the % being inaccurate and you get more life than what it says on the indicator?

I think the battery meter is inaccurate. The true way is to test it all the way.

Also, if you are tooling with AA, viewing settings, playing with eq, etc you will use up battery faster. Their measurements are taken while playing music and not touching anything.

Things like your backlight timeout setting and the bitrate of your audio files can also impact your battery life. The 24 hour number is based on continuous playback of 128 Kb MP3 files.

Set the backlight level to minimum and the backlight time small if you want good battery life. Hunting for songs individually rather than letting albums play through will also give much less battery life. Using WMA rather than mp3 will also decrease battery life. Using a higher bitrate decreases battery life.

Asides from whether or not you like the sound of wma vbr vs the other formats, I keep seeing that it's harder on batteries...any estimate on how much so? It hasn't been an issue with my Fuze, but on my upcoming Clip, will it be?
I was also wondering...from everything I read, the Cowon players sound and work great....but what's so different that their battery life is so much greater? The rated life is way better...is kryptonite involved?

My guess is that battery life using WMA may be around 30% or so less than mp3 at the same bitrate.

Which player are you talking about? The iaudio 7 has outstanding battery life because it has a big fat battery. The player isn't all that big overall, but the form factor is a bit awkward.

i think he meant "fat as in "thick", in which case it is true...
cowon players are very thick, because they have a fat battery and great battery life.

oh, well i haven't owned one so i wouldn't know...
BUT, i drew a picture of it once using the dimension given on their site (yes, i have no life), and it was thicker than my p2 and my fuze combined

Funny thing about the Clip. It is a bit more than twice the thickness of the Fuze. In terms of player size in volume, the Clip is a bit larger than the Fuze!
Fuze dimensions 1.9 in x 0.3 in x 3.1 = 1.767 cubic inches Clip dimensions 2.17” x 1.35” x .65” = 1.904 cubic inches |

I don't have a Clip. You could get a ruler and measure your Clip.

WalkGood, I know.
JK98, I found out that it is with the clip on the back. |

A friend has one which I've seen and used. It's definitely "fat" in this segment of the DAP market. I didn't feel like the player fits comfortably in a pants pocket which to me makes it awkward.
