Personally I'd look at buying a used Pilot from eBay's best buy outlet before buying a new battery. The average price of a used Pilot is less now than a replacement battery. |

I had a similar situation, where the battery would drain out within 10 minutes even after a full charge. But before ordering a replacement battery, I wanted to see if the difficulty of changing it.
So I opened the cover, looked at the battery, its connection etc., and then reassembled it. That seems to have done something because the battery now started to keep the charge and the drain issue was gone. My guess is that due to the poor construction of the player, pressure on the player may have caused the battery connection to become unstable. Try and see if this fixes your player issue. |

I'll have to try it too. I love the pilot, but the build quality is horrible.

The price for new a new battery is now $55.31 + $9.95 shipping! eBay seller Global Trader has "Genuine Insignia Battery" for $9.75 with free shipping. Mine arrived today. It looks ok and I'm charging it now. Wish me luck, please.

The battery took a full charge in just over 4 hours. I set the pilot to repeat 1 song, volume to 15, and to blank the screen. It was still playing after 20 hours but dead before 22 hours. That's not bad for under $10!

Wow.. On ebay, they have a bunch of insignia pilot accessories for a really low price. Last edited by David K; 12-13-2008 at 07:23 PM. |

Wow... can't believe that batteries are being unloaded at that price. My battery is definitely showing weakness after a year's use. Where once I could get 20 or so hours out of it... now it is more like 8-10 hours. Thanks for the heads up

I bought a whole new 8GB player, and it's good because my USB port broke on the original player. The 8GB that I bought had a broken screen, so just gonna swap those and call it a day

All this talk about replacements....i'm getting worried that i might have to either get a replacement battery for my pilot or just get a Sandisk/Sansa brand mp3 player or something. I didn't expect the Pilot to just die off within a year of its release...

Well my USB port also broke, so I bought a broken screened one, and it turns out who ever designed the Pilot decided replacing the screen was not necessary thus the screen is basically not replaceable without the right soldering iron and other tools.
I now have two dead Pilots and deciding if it's worth buying another one

Check out this website $41 for a battery. http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/4164379 My battery is almost one year old in a week, and it is also not holding a charge long anymore. I love this player, guess I will have to decide to replace the battery. |

That is why I have never ordered from Ebay, too risky. I don't need the headache.
