Default Firmware Problem D:

So heres the deal...

I was listening to my Zen when it decided to lock up on me. I reset and it starts rebuilding but then it stops at about 75% though. It try's to rebuild again then the same thing happens, then it goes to a screen that says 'Firmware problem.'

I tried doing a disc clean up on it. Then I tried deleting and reloading the firmware. Still nothing. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Welcome Acara. It sounds like you could have anyone of the following problems:

1. Corrupt Firmware - but since you said you already erased and reloaded (from within Recovery Mode???) the firmware, it doesn't seem likely this is the cause.

2. Corrupt File System - A corrupt file system could cause the firmware to become corrupt, as well as everything else on the hard drive. Unfortunately to correct, a Format will have to be done. Keep in mind, a Format will erase all files currently stored on the ZVM.

3. A failing/failed hard drive - since your drive seems to be detectable, the drive could eventually be failing due to too many bad and unrecoverable sectors. In order to repair, a new hard drive may be needed.

Thanks!
I did do the reloading the firmware from Recovery mode.

I guess the next step would be for me to format it. I'll try that and see what happens.

Just remember you will lose all files when doing this, so hopefully you have them all backed-up. Let me know....

That seemed to do the trick! Thanks

I just have one random kind of question now...

I used to own a Zen Sleek and I remember I used to be able to change the name of the artists and song titles before I put them on the player. Is there anyway I can do this on the Vision M?

Good. No problem.

Sure, my favorite program to edit ID3 tags is MP3Tag.
