The only thing that is honestly stopping me from getting a view is not being able to have themes on it. I wish I could just rant and magically people would get H3Mod working on it, but I don't think it works that way; and how close are we to getting it to work?

As far as I know, there has been no major work on the H3Mods on the View.

Well, who actually is trying to get H3Mod on the view? I would even help myself if I knew anything about stuff like that....but I don't :/

I am not sure if there is anyone that is working on H3Mods for the View. I think there need more people to look at the firmware. I think you might want to look at Rockbox to help you look make a theme, but that is off topic for the Rockbox forums too.

You're the first one I've ever heard mention it. The View firmware can be modded (its closely related to the e200 firmware), but I don't think anyone has taken an interest in actually doing anything with it.

Wow, I didn't know there wasn't anyone even interested in H3Modding on the View. Honestly, I don't like RockBox. I just don't like the feel of it. It's too technical, and if all I want to do is change how it looks, I don't think I'd want that. I know it has oh so many features but all I want is to photoshop my own theme and apply it. What should I do?

I have been working on somehow getting h3mod on the view, and I found out (not completely positive though) that you do not even need h3mod. On the firmware .zip there is a bitmap.dat file that simply needs to be unpacked to access the images, and then repacked when done editing, without having h3mod to get into the mi4. I wrote a unpacking utility that is used through command prompt, but it gives me an error "could not create new file" when it finishes unpacking. If a good coder and not a noob like me made a good unpacking/packing utility, we could just access the images and edit them, then repack the .dat file.

I don't think that would work because the firmware itself probably has a known CRC of the bitmaps and it would check its integrity. You need a project/team like rockbox to tear apart the entire firmware.. imo.

The firmware format has already been reverse engineered and the checksum bypassed (see the rockbox wiki).

Same story as the View, except even harder to do since theres no way to recover a bad theme, and the firmware format isn't as well understood.
