I'm running the 1.93 firmware and just bought a new 4GB micro SDHC flash card (it's Transcend brand). When I insert the card a message comes up "Profiling Media Files" then "Unable to formate external memory!!" Under Settings, for External memory it shows 0MB for Total, Use and Free.
In another post someone said to format the internal memory, which I did, but I still get the error. I also tried erasing internal and external memory from within the player, but still get the "unable to format error". Also, when I plug the player into the computer I get the prompt from XP to open a new folder and under My Computer I see Portable Devices\Insignia Video Player\Internal Storage but don't see the external memory. Can anyone help? I don't know if this is a problem with the Transcend SDHC card, the player, or if there is something I need to do. |

Try plugging it into the PC in MSC mode (so that the card shows up as a drive letter in XP), and format it that way.

Thanks Jeffrok! Switching to MSC mode solved the problem (without requiring formatting).

I agree with you, you did not provide enough info to make a wild stab in the dark.

ok, I have iriver x20 4GB, I have bought a micro sd 4GB. I am switching off my player, then I am inserting my micro sd, turning on the player, and I see: can't format external memory. I have tried to format internal memory, but it doesn't help.

OK, stab in the dark...
Your player is not an Insignia NS-DV... You mean an SDHC micro card, right? So, does the X20 firmware play nice with SDHC cards? Have you loaded the NS-DV firmware on the X20? If so, is the player really not bricked now? Have you asked in the Iriver forum? And their answer was...?

On the header? ;-)
Actually, the x20 and NS-DV are siblings off the same assembily line... The fact that Tobey got the x20 firmware loaded on the NS-DV speaks volumes. The original NS-DV did not dance with SDHC cards either, maybe iriver could borrow the Pilots firmware for an end of life extension, thats what Insignia did on the latest beta FW. To think, the Insignia MP3 Team showing up an established manufacturer on FW realease.

Quote:
Sandisk worked just fine and was formated fat32 @ 16K clusters. A-Data came with 4K clusters and the NS-DV would lock up more than not on large files. Use the Panny formater and read THIS I see the A-Data deal is gone, to bad...
