Default Purpose Of The Copper On The Motherboard???

I have 2 Zen VM's I bought on Ebay One had a bad hardrive the other a bad motherboard(I think) Anyway they both have different drives in them The one with a bad board has the copper & the drive is good. The one with the bad drive that motherboard has no copper & boots rightup with the swapped drive. So should I be concerned about the fact there is no copper plate or not? Other than that the boards are the same.Do I need the copper plate on there?

Don't know about the function of the copper plate, but I also have 2 ZVM's purchased off Ebay and both motherboards are different. However, both players function okay but the one with the copper plate on the motherboard does not sync to computer. But when that HDD is removed and plugged into the other players MB it syncs just fine. Maybe it is an issue with that version of MB's from Creative

Well the drives are not the same one is a toshiba that is the one that was on the bad board with the copper. The drive is good. The good board has no copper & had a Hitachi drive.

The purpose of the copper shielding is to help prevent EMI (electromagnetic interference) in the player.

Thanks, I was wondering why one board has it & the other does not. The one without it had the bad board at least I believe the board to be bad. But the drive was good. So I've swapped the drives & the boards & my daughter has the "pink" player she wanted.

Perhaps it was removed (or damaged and then removed) or maybe very early models didn't have the copper shielding....
