How to get UMS on U3J using GNU/Linux?

Has anyone had any success in getting the U3J to go to UMS without the need for a Windows box? Nobody I know has one, and I'd like to be able to get my player into UMS mode.

I've been able to successfully downgrade to 1.11 firmware, but still using MTP -- I used Gnomad2 and mtp-tools for this, and just copied a new ROM and RSC into the System folder.
