Default USB Host on 30GB?

I was wondering if it is possible to use the USB Host feature on the 30gb version of Zen M. Swapping files via flash driver or hard drive directly into my Zen would be real cool. The thing is, if I purchase the Multifunction cable, will it work?

I've seen the abi comparison chart specifically saying the "60GB has host feature". But when I purchased Zen M, I got a fold-open paper/brochure that shows the Multifunction cable as an accessory of 30gb too. Or have I made a mistake here?

Thanks,
Milad

No sorry. The 30GB Zen doesn't have the hardware capability to act as a USB Host; even with the cable.

Default Are 30g and 60g boards same

Hi, does anyone know whats the difference with the boards
I already have a 60g but i would like to try some bigger drives and i dont want to rip this one apart. I was thinking of buying a broken zen with maybe a bust screen. Does anyone know the pros and cons of both boards.
I`ve read alot on this forum about file count issues but i`m wondering if
the file issue counts are for both 30 and 60 boards.
Thanks

Well... you do have the USB host feature of the ZVM 60GB. I believe the file count issue holds true for either board used since it is most likely due to the firmware as being the cause.

Default USB On-the-go

Hi,

I was just wondering if there was a way to use USB on-the-go with a 30GB Vision:M (upgraded to 120GB). Why is this specific to the 60GB version? Is it possible to play back a file on the external memory (as opposed to copy it, then play it)? Is there some sort of third party firmware I can use to add the USB hosting function? What I plan to do is have all my video on an external hard drive, and just connect it to the Vision:M when I need it, then output to a TV from there.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

The ZVM 60GB version has this USB Host feature only because it has the additional hardware (Host Controller) and protocols to make it so. The ZVM 30GB version is not capable due to lacking the hardware.

Merged with existing thread.
