Question FM autoscan feature not operating

Has anyone else been unable to autoscan for FM stations with their ZVM?
I purchased my unit yesterday. Ironically, the first thing I tried after opening
the box was checking out its FM reception . When I select for autoscanning
to supposedly delete all "previous presets", no scanning takes place. I do
live in a fringe area, 8 miles from Middletown, NY, but can still easily tune in
about a dozen stations with any ordinary table radio. Yes, I had the headphones inserted (I understand that the ZVM uses the earphone wires as
antenna). I also tried going outside, and walking around. Not a single station can be received. I'm surprised that Creative didn't design the ZVM to
allow for user known frequencies to be individually keyed in (in the same way
it allows users to type in playlist names etc. via an onscreen "keyboard"). I'm
doubly surprised that no one else seems to be bothered by this omission. Should I return the unit for an exchange? I love the rest of
the features; the video quality is superb. Having fooled around with the unit
after reading the manual...I would have to say I do not find the menu layout
to be completely self apparent, and I am reasonably good at such things.

I just picked up my ZVM the other day and had no issue with the FM scanning. Actually that is one of the reasons that I chose it. Those that recomended it and reviewed it said that it had strong FM reception. I did upgrade my firmware before I tested the FM though, so that is worth a try. If you got it at a physical store, go back and test if it works on there demo model, if it does, I would return it and get a new one.

Good Luck

Default fm now working

Versus1-
Thanks for responding. I upgraded the firmware this morning, and the FM
autoscan feature now works nicely, along with everything else. What a relief!!! I purchased my ZVM to replace a 2 gig Sansa stolen from me
a month after its purchase (nice simple player by the way). The ZVM is
in another league (and price range )

Glad that worked for you. I has a Sansa e250 for about 3 days and was putting so much time into fixing problems, that I took it back and got the ZVM. I am very happy with it, but I think a smaller flash player is still in my future. If Rockbox is ported soon to the e200 series then I may re-aquire one, if not the Cowon iAudio U3 is looking mighty good. I originally dismissed it because of the smaller screen but I will be using the ZVM for video so that is no longer an issue. It's a shame about your stolen sansa, but I am sure you will enjoy the ZVM for a long time to come.
