Most synced songs aren't playing. Don't understand why.

My Fuze arrived last night. I upgraded the firmaware (I have version 1.XX).

I synced a bunch of songs via media monkey, and then tried to play. The only ones that worked were ones that I had ripped and converted a couple of years ago. The ones I ripped and converted recently (to MP3) using Songbird (via Lame), and the ones I purchased from Amazon didn't play.* All of the files are MP3 or WMA. (The WMA ones work)

* Theses songs either "play" without any sound, or the Fuze just skipps over them.

All of these songs play normally on my old sansa M230...

Does anyone have any ideas?

Some thoughts on potential issues
-I did have trouble syncing at first. I tried drag and drop which didn't work, so I did the media monkey sync. (which took a couple of tries - A combination of Mediamonkey sync settings, and my own ignorance)

-I've noticed that some of the songs that don't play have a negative track length time (e.g. -5.43)??

I thought it might be good to start from scratch. I saw a "format" option in settings. Will that action wipe away the firmware? (in additon to the music files)

Any ideas/help is much appreciated!

Format will not erase the firmware....just anything you've loaded on.

If you look in the System Settings of your Fuze, you have a USB option there. If you want to use drag and drop exclusively, set the USB to MSC. If you want to use syncing, then set it to MTP. I've seen that advice so often in the Sansa forums here, there might actually be something to it

My Fuze is set to MTP, my Clip to MSC.

Thanks for your help!. I formated the Fuze and tried to sync the right way with Media monkey. (MTP mode). This time, none of the songs played.

So I formated again, set it to MSC mode, and drag and dropped.

I did a random sample of the songs and they ALL played!!!

I really wanted to use a media manager, but I don't have any patience for fussy/quirky software.

If anyone knows issues with MediaMonkey, I'd like to hear about it...

I used to be in love with MediaMonkey, but lately it has had a tendency not to obey my every whim. This irritates me, and I am considering replacing it with Winamp. I use Winamp at work, and it's also very good.
