Posting this here as I finally found how to get a FULL upgrade path for my YP-U1 from the old 4-file based Sigmatec drivers to the new 6-file based Sigmatec drivers. (The YP-U1 uses a Sigmatec 3500 as its Digital Sound Processor).
I also managed to uncover a problem with the Removable Media Bit setting on my MP3 player while I was at it....... which had previously stopped me upgrading. Sooooo for anyone else tearing their hair out trying to upgrade from firmware 2.x to install the Korean 3.150 firmware with SRS-WOW here is how to do it: ------------------------ 1) Download the v2.1 firmware from the following site: http://www.samsungplay.com/support/p...p?SMSESSION=NO (It is listed as 'YP-U1 Driver Program' from the Spanish region) 2) Download the v3.12 firmware from the following site: http://www.samsungplay.com/support/p...p?SMSESSION=NO (It is listed as 'YP-U1 Firmware Upgrade' from the Spanish region) 3) Download the v3.150 firmware linked in the sticky thread. ------------------------ Congratulations, you now have all the necessary files for a full upgrade path. Full upgrade path = v2.1 -> v3.12 -> v3.150 You *CANNOT* install directly from v2.x firmware to v3.15. You *HAVE* to use the 3.12 firmware as an intermediate step. If you flash your YP-U1 in the order listed above you should manage to upgrade to the version with SRS-WOW. (For the technical people the 3.12 drivers allow the succesful transfer from the 4-Binary file old style sigmatec drivers to the 6-Binary file new driver format. This is why you cant just install the 3.150 drivers directly on all players as the 3.150 updater expects an existing 6-file firmware version). Linky to info on Sigmatec firmware formats: http://mympxplayer.org/1-vt8150.html?start=0 ****************************************** NOTE: Can someone post the following link to the v2.1 and v3.12 firmware revisions on the firmware sticky as these files are VERY hard file to find by googling or through a random search: http://www.samsungplay.com/support/p...p?SMSESSION=NO ****************************************** ------------------------ ADDITIONAL PROBLEM - Resetting the REMOVABLE MEDIA BIT Despite having the firmware versions listed above my MP3 player would not upgrade at all until I reset the Removable Media Bit flag on the device. I used BootIt.exe, downloaded from the following site: http://www.pendriveapps.com/bootit-l...edia-bit-tool/ WARNING: You only need insert the MP3 player, run BootIt ONCE and then click the 'Flip Removable Bit' button. DO NOT use the format command - purely as the version I downloaded crashed under XP and Vista. However forcing the Removable Media Bit to flip seemed to be the additional step I needed to get the firmware installed. ------------------------ Hopefully all this will be of use to those people who are still having problems upgrading their U1 to the latest firmware. If anyone has any further questions then let me know and I will check back from time to time ![]() Draksyl Last edited by Draksyl; 03-24-2009 at 02:06 AM. |

No update of this thread.
I only update the sticked "all firmwares" thread. Use it for latest US and EU firmwares (3.152) There are problems with download links for KR firmwares for the moment. Here is the latest KR firmware (3.150): http://kr.samsungmobile.com/service/...=1578&seqNum=1

The problem is that the firmware sticky only lists the latest firmware - and anyone upgrading from earlier versions (2.x) will need to go through the following steps:
2.x -> 3.12 -> 3.15 My YP-U1 came with firmware 2.20, and so I had to update first to v3.12 before I could succesfully get to 3.15 Whenever I tried to go from 2.x to 3.15 the updater froze as it is incompatible with 2.x firmware. That is why I suggested updating the Samsung 'All Firmware' sticky - because anyone still stuck on 2.x will need links to 3.12 BEFORE they can download the latest version (3.15). As things currently stand anyone on v2.x will be unable to update to v3.15 based on the firmware sticky. |

Normaly you just have to upgrade with the latest firmware. You don't need the intermediate firmwares. That's the same on every Samsung mP3 player so I don't understand why your player frozes
![]() Anyway, I'll do it as soon as possible. Most download links of the sticky thread are down since Yepp changed his website. So I will do all what is needed at the same time

Quote:
http://mympxplayer.org/1-vt8150.html?start=0 v2.x drivers were based on 4 binary files (including usbmsc.sb). v3.x drivers are based on 6 binary files (including hostlink.sb). Sadly the v3.15 drivers dont seem to handle the conversion properly from one format to the other - whereas the older 3.12 drivers WILL recognise the older usbmsc.sb based firmware format, and perform the upgrade to the hostlink.sb format properly. At least using v3.12 as an intermediate step gives people a workaround if they hit the same problems installing the 3.15 drivers directly.
