How to distinguish V1 from V2?

I got mine (V2) but just curious (maybe to help another people...)
Is there any way to know if I'm buying V1 or V2 of Fuze? Any year on the packed Fuze or something?

My assumption- here in Canada (Futureshop) they sell Fuzes in paper boxes (with old sansa logo-circle) and plastic packaging (with the new logo-4 colors). I bought a plastic one and- it's V2. So I think paper box=V1, plastic=V2. Am I right?

There's no way of knowing without opening the package and turning it on. My 2nd Clip was in the old-style box like my original V1, but it is a V2.

The only reliable way that I've heard of is to turn it on and look at the firmware version. Some folks have thought as you do that the packaging has something to do with it, but that hasn't been true in the past, from what I've read.

What's the bar code say on the back of the box? I bought one that came in plastic with some cardboard cover and it's a V1 4GB Fuze from Futureshop.

Why does it matter, if somora2 already knows which one they have?

Because I come from the PSP hacking scene, where you can determine the hardware version by identifying the barcode/serial number. I would bet it is the same for the Fuze or any other type of device.

While sandisk does label some of their players, the shells are interchangable, so people sometimes get players labeled "v2" that are actually V1s.

Usually if it came in the older "Cube" style box, it's V1. The V2 now comes in a sort of rounded, "pod" box.

But I have heard stories of V2 models being sold in the older boxes, so it's not an accurate way to tell.

Chances are if you bought it within the last two months... it's V2.

Unless a stores doing clearance. I just bought mine and it's a V1 model.
