Default Rhapsody vs. non-Rhapsody versions

Hello Clix experts. I am about to buy a Clix and just had a question about the differences between versions. I was about to purchase the 8 gig non-Rhapsody version because I have no interest in the Rhapsody service. While deciding it seems that Iriver discontinued this model and pretty much all retailers sold out. So now I guess I have to get the Rhapsody model unless I search hard and possibly pay extra for the other model.

My question is, what is the difference between the 2 models? I know the basic difference is that the Rhapsody version has compatability for that service, but I believe that can be gained through firmware update anyway. The other difference I notice is the background picture, which can also be changed. So, is there any other differences or are they pretty much identical? Any reason to choose one or the other?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

They ain't just 'pretty much identical', they are indeed the same player loaded with different firmware. You can switch b/w Rhapsody and non-Rhapsody clix2 by manually changing the firmware.

My son has a non-Rhapsody player with quite a bit of music on it. I use the Rhapsody service with a different brand player. I'd like him to be able to use it since there's no extra cost to do so. Can the firmware be changed without affecting the music he already has on there or does he have to reload it after installing the firmware?
