is anyone else using a p3 with linux? and if so, how are your write speeds?
on windows xp, I'm getting 4MB/s writes across multiple machines, but when using linux, I'm getting ~450KB/s. currently I've only tested on one machine (and no it's not a problem with the machine, it writes at 4mB/s on windows too) with 2.6.30 on arch and 2.6.26 gparted live. Going to test on some other machines but I'm expecting similar results. Anyone else experiencing this? |

I'd hazard a guess that you don't have good USB 2.0 drivers for the linux machine. Or it's not detecting the p3 as a USB 2.0 device for whatever reason (driver related?).
It almost sounds like it's xferring the files in USB 1.1 mode not 2.0. |

do you mind posting your write speeds when mounted with sync?
mount -o remount, sync /media/P3 dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/P3/test bs=128K count=100 conv=fdatasync replace /media/P3 with wherever your p3 is mounted and yes, I know sync will "slow down" transfer speeds, but cached writes don't really mean anything, when it takes forever to unmount <_<. If I try that command will it sync my entire music collection? I Can't do that. I'm having a small problem with my usb that is unrelated to linux.
