Hi Folks-
When I plug my Clix2 in, a note pops up that reads: "USB DEVICE NOT Recognized One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I've already tried reformatting, turning the Clix on before and after plugging in, restarting my comp, as well as switching USB modes (why this option is located under "connection"-- instead of "USB Mode"-- is beyond me). Still the same results. Any ideas? |

Does your device work normally on it's own? If so, it's probably a problem with your system, not the clix. Try plugging into a different port, preferably in a different bank of slots (in other words: In the back if you were plugging it in the front). Also, try re-installing your USB drivers using the device manager.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've already tried both of them since my last posting, and still no luck. I get the same response (or lack thereof) no matter which USB port I plug it into. I even tried uninstalling the driver.

Try another PC. This way you can be sure of which one is faulty.

Thanks, clieOS-
I just tried plugging it into my friend's computer, and got the same notice. I also just tried to reset the device. I noticed that even after doing this, the clock is still showing the current time, so I don't think it was a complete reset? |

The reset button only does a soft reset, you have to format the player via its advanced setting if you want to hard reset it. Also, try another USB cable.

Have you tried changing the connection mode? I found that it may help to connect it manually, at least it is should worth a try.

ClieOS- The weird thing is that I have reformatted via Advanced Setting too, and it still shows the current time.
KjetilH- Yeah tried that, too. Still no luck. |

The clock is run independent of firmware. The only way to reset the clock is to deplete the battery.

Oh okay, I thought maybe it would be an indicator of whether it got completely reset or not, but oh well. Any other ideas? Or is this thing bricked for good (there's nothing on it, since I the reformat)?

BTW, are you using Vista? You might have better luck w/ XP.

By that line of reasoning...
Have you tried any other operating system? You might have better luck avoiding windows altogether.

I'm using XP Pro, 2nd security. Don't have access to a Vista computer. I suppose I could try plugging into a mac, but I didn't think it was compatible...

Vista is known to have more problem with clix2 in MTP mode than XP.

Do you have the latest Windows Media Player? I don't think you can MTP transfer to the device unless you have version 10 or higher.
I believe version 9 lets you do a 'read only' mode on the device. |

I wish people would look at the date of the thread... RiceBandit has not been here since March 2008.
