Your right, there are not many docks out there for Walkmans. The one you linked to is the only one I've seen in the US. I've also seen this one on Sony's Japan website (as far as I can tell it was only sold in a bundle with an S636/S638). It seems that Sony makes more docks for iPod's than they do Walkmans. I doubt you'll see any new S639 docks show up since it was last years model.
If you like building things maybe you could make your own? Get an extra WM-Port cable, a USB-wall adapter, and an old pair of computer speakers? Just thinkin' out loud. Matt |

hi, i was about to ask same question, im from the UK and recently bought new S638 at a really great price, so as it was such a good bargain decided get a docking station but as im not very tech minded im unsure if any type of MP3 docking station will work with it, there are so many variations out there, but only actual relevant ones from Sony that look to match with S series i could see are SRS-NWGU50 which is around £120 or the SRS-NWGM30 for £50
anyone help me out on this ? |

Try the following products from iHome Audio: www.ihomeaudio.com
Though the company makes portable speakers for iPods, many of them have the audio cable to connect to other PMPs via 3.5mm port. |

thanks for replies, ok just so im sure on this , a lot of docking stations of any brand will work with the S638 but i would need a "line out" / 3.5mm port device ?

Essentially, yes.
Many dock station/speaker have the bottom port for the ipod. So unless you have an ipod, the speaker must have a line out/3.5mm cable to use the S638 via 3.5mm port. For example... Look at the Bose Soundock for iPod. It has an auxiliary input for other mp3/PMP devices incl. portable CD players. Unfortunately, you'll have to buy the cable to connect the device to the speaker. Some other manufacturers' devices have the cable built in. |

after looking around decided against the GM30 and have now ordered the newer SRS NWGU50 from Amazon UK for £70, ($114) it seems like a really good deal as its £120 from Play

have now received my SRS NWGU50 docking station, its fantastic !!!! well bear in mind its not high end audio perfection, but then again it only cost £70
ok i guess some people (audiophiles) would never be satisfied and could find niggles but seriously, it is great, it looks shiny and sleek with its wood cabinet and its minimalist buttons and obviously sound quality to my mind is expectional. Buy without hesitation is my opinion and here's a little pic of my new best friend. |
