Just got a P3 32GB.
I created a couple of slideshows using Nero Vision 5, exported them as .avi files and transferred them to the P3. When I tried to play the .avi files on the P3, I got this error message: Not Supported Format Video Codec(YV12) Has anyone else encountered this? I am wondering if it is a problem with my encoding, or if I need to update the firmware..? Advice welcome - will try exporting to some of the other supported video formats too...

Moved your thread to the relevant forum.
It's an encoding problem... not that it should be, though. YV12 is a color space, not a codec. So the error message is rather misleading and doesn't say much (hooray for Samsung). Use an app that isn't Nero to convert your videos to specs the P3 understands.

You might get that message, but just ignore it if the files play OK.

The videos do not play - I get the error message when trying to play them.
Sorry, I see where you moved me - that will teach me to try and browse on my mobile! Thanks for the link. Unfortunately my flying arithmetic is a bit rusty! :-D The wikipedia article is interesting - the colour distortion demonstrated was very similar to what I was getting on my netbook: playing the Nero .avi files with VLC, the colour was off similar to the screens on wikipedia. Playing the Nero .avi files with WMP or the Nero player, they worked fine without the colour distortion. Guess I'll use VLC as the Litmus for future conversions.

I use a lot of GOM encoder for video conversions... I'm not good at using any Apple products (sorry, I'm Microsoft Assimilated
) and Emodio is kind of slow at conversions...

I found that Photoshop Elements worked fine to create .wmv files that play fine on the P3.
My new problem is battery - my wife only gets 3hrs playback off a full charge... ![]() ...but that's a matter for another thread!

I've used SUPER free video encoder/transcoder for video for most all my devices.
I've seen a few others mention it but doesn't appear to be mentioned in this thread. Takes a little bit to get used to and learn but it does tend to be a potent encoder for video. |
