So anytime I have my P3 plugged into my PC with the USB cable, the P3 is "dead". It does display the USB connected screen, but it will not power on or off, play any media, or do much of anything at all.
Is this normal? Is the P3 non functional while charging or connected via USB? |

It's normal, purchase a USB charger from wall socket, then you can use it at the same time as playing music etc. You can also plug the USB socket about half way into the PC, be careful as it's a fine line of adjustment between being disconnected or data being connected (no music), this is what I do. Can still charge while playing music.

If you look at the USB Connector, there are 4 Pins. Put an adhesive tape over the 2 Pins in the middle. In that way the P3 is only charged via USB.
If you have experiences in soldering, you can build an adapter for it. 4 Pins in-> 2 Pins out. |

put the computer in sleep mode, it will charge and play music. if its in sleep it will supply power but the harddrive wont be able to access it until it comes out of sleep.
In laptops set the power scheme to "go into sleep mode when i close my lid" than you can plug it in and listen while you charge. You can then hold down the power button on p3 the screen will flip to say charging. push it again to listen or do what ever. |

Same, my computers always did too. Some provide power to the USB ports while in sleep but not many from what I have experienced.
