Default Computer Not Recognizing X-Fi

I have read every post on this site and nothing recommended fixes my problem. I plug my player in and all I ever get is USB Device Not Recognized. It does not show up in the Device Manager at all. I also do not have any thing there that says anything about MTP. I finally rebooted the computer (Vista) back to original factory settings and then installed the Service Pack 2 and in booting the computer it placed WMP 11 on the computer. Still no connection for the X-fi. I then downloaded a probram from Windows that is the MTP Kit and the computer then recognized the device one time. When I unplugged it and plugged it back in I got the USB device not recognized. I am at my wits end trying to get this thing to work. It just all of a sudden won't connect. I tried it on the wife's computer and it also said USB device not recognized. Any one have any ideas that may make this think work. Thanks. This is the first time I have had this problem as this device has worked flawlessly.
