I would suggest that you try reloading the latest firmware ( http://support.creative.com/download...wnloadId=11171 ) I think it's worth a shot and it shouldn't hurt the player.

EDIT: I believe the file system is FAT32 (someone correct me if I'm wrong)... so you should make sure that you reformatted it with the FAT 32 file system before loading the firmware.
