Default Creative ZVM not recognised under Win 7

Hi,

I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit in my laptop and it does not recoginse my ZVM 30GB.

All I want to do is to charge the battery. Is there a work-around for this ?

I tried in the Win 7, Xp Mode and that does not work either.

Any tip/fix would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
mpm

My zen vision M 30 gb works find under Win7 Home Premium 64. It recognized the player just like Vista did.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sorry don't know any workaround. my zvm (60 gig) works fine with w7 x64. If all you need is to charge the battery why not just buy an external charger? $15-20 tops?

If the player cannot ppwer up because of a drained battery, then it cannot be recognized by the computer, and therefore will not charge from USB at its normal rate. This is the USB charging catch-22 that the ZVM is famous for.

I find it funny that computers running Linux don't have this problem. However, short of installing Linux on your system, your best bet is to get a wall charger (see my FAQ subforum for information on this. DO NOT USE A WALL CHARGER THAT PLUGS INTO A PLAYER'S USB PORT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CHARGE THE ZVM -- EVER!), unless you don't mind leaving it plugged into a computer for 24 hours or so.

Come to think of it, many Linux distros have LiveCD's you can download, burn to disk, and boot off of without disturbing your computer's configuration. This might be a nice, cheap (free) alternative to getting a wall charger or sitting and waiting while your player charges enough to be able to turn on and get recognized by the computer so that it can charge...

For whatever reason, the ZVM's USB controlling circuitry is super-sensitive to overvoltages and overcurrent. To make matters worse, many USB chargers are 12V rather than 5V, or they provide more than the maximum 500mA. In any case, plugging anything other than a computer into the ZVM's USB port means almost certain death for the ZVM. I have more than three years worth of horror stories in this forum that will attest to this fact.

Just take my word for it and don't do it. Or I will cry.

Thanks for the various tips/postings. Suddenly, Win 7-64 recognised my ZVM and I dont need any creative software to explore the contents, though I have not tried creating any new playlist.
