The volume is too low , I have done the usual eq on flat, and turning AVLS OFF......but still no joy...How do i know the volume is too low?? I have an NWZ-A816 and when playing the same music its SIGNIFICANTLY quieter on the NWZ-S545!!! ![]() What a bunch of pants....... Maybe its because the A816 has more audio technologies?? can anyone help?? gonna send this back other wise.............. |

Try turning the Dynamic Normalizer on. And the EQ will not lower the volume if you do that.

I never had the A816, but I think the S545 is plenty loud. Are they really that different?

Hi,
Just registered to this site because I am having a real problem with the volume on my S545 too and am considering sending it back which is a real ball ache. Basically, as has already been said, it is REALLY REALLY quiet - even when compared to my ancient NW-A1000! So I was wondering if anyone knows of a service menu for this model or a donwload for the player which will help to remove the annoying volume limitations sony has decided to impose on this player. Thanks! |

My S545 gets uncomfortably loud if the the volume is set to approximately 23 (depending on the recording) or above. It is definitely too loud for me.
Just curious, where are you guys with the quiet S545's located? Mine is a US model. Matt |

That's a good point, the locations. I have one set of earphones that I can handle volume 23 with, but with my other ones that would indeed be way too loud.

i bought a Sony A726 and S544 on sale at Bestbuy in Dec. I haven't noticed any volume problem with either. I can only afford to keep one so returned the A726. It sounded slightly better but I prefer the FM, recording, and speakers on the S544.

Im located in the UK, so im guessing its the EU volume directives, but as i have indicated above in my first post, i upgraded the firmware to non european version (Malaysia!), also as i cant find any firmware upgrade for my player on Sony EU website. ........................................

What the hell guys? I use Panasonic earphones and I think the s545 is too loud at night. When I am in my bed listening to music at 1/30 I find it loud. And usually in the bus where it's quite loud, I listen to it at 5 or 6/30.

I think we're finding that s545s bought in Europe have considerably less volume than those bought in the US because of legislation here. That's why some of you guys are saying it's too loud, I bet you're all from the US.

The Dynamic Normalizer doesn't lower volume. It boosts up the volume of the quieter tracks, and since it induces no distortion, I use it all the time....essential for shuffle all songs mode.

That's what I meant. The reason the op is having low volume is because he has dynamic normalizer turned off or he bought a lemon. Because dynamic normalizer boosts the volume.
