Question Can the screen be turned off?

I almost hope there's no sentence in the manual that answers this.
Is it impossible to turn off the ZVM screen while listening to album after
album? Seems like a big waste of battery power, even after turning the
brightness down to 10%. What purpose does this serve when you have the
thing in your shirt pocket for hours? I hope I'm completely wrong. anton
