I'm new to this forum, so first off:
Hello! ![]() Also, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to the technical aspects of mp3 players. So bare with me. I've been looking and looking, for an mp3 player to replace my Vision: M. LOVE my Zen, but the battery is starting to die and I'd like to try out something different to change things up - I've had it for 3 years now. After some research, I stumbled upon this little gadget. And from what I've read so far, it seems like just the player I'm looking for. I don't care about videos or photos. Just music and good audio quality. My only wish is that it came with a larger storage. 60GB would be perfect. Anyways, since it's been discontinued since 2007, it's hard to get a hold of one. I found a few new ones online, but they're going for over $300 ![]() I might as well get a new Samsung P3 for cheaper. (But I don't care for touch screens) Now, I have found a used one within my budget. It seems the owner has replaced the battery with a new one. Again, I'm a noob and have never opened up an mp3 player to do modifications or anything like that. Is it a good idea to buy a used X5 that has had it's battery replaced? Or is that too risky? Any specific questions I should ask the owner before pulling the trigger? I have already asked if any other mods have been done to it (he hasn't answered back yet). Thanks in advance! So glad I found this site! It rocks!

The X5 did come in 60GB, as well as 20 and 30GB versions. There's also people been modding it with newer, even bigger hard disks (or with solid-state CF cards, which I did to my X5). If you can get an X5 with a fresh battery for a good price, it sure is still a very good audio player, with both the stock firmware and Rockbox.

It's just that I can't find any of those at all. I see some 20GBs and 30GBs floating around, but never 60GB's. Yeah I saw that! Thanks for the link. But like I said, I've never done anything like that - but it doesn't look too hard. Which is another reason I'm liking this used X5 idea. If I break it while trying to modify it, I won't be too heartbroken. I forgot to also ask, but I think I already know the answer (no): Is there song rating at all? Or a DJ? Like with the Zen. I love those 2 features and use them regularly. I'm not sure what this Rockbox is all about. But I'm determined to find out because it sounds awesome ![]() Thanks for the info! |
