Default Loading problems

Greetings - Newbie here.

Bought a S545 a couple of days ago and have been merrily loading my CD collection. Loaded over 1000 songs, 6gB, and now I can no longer copy anything to the device. I use WinAmp 11 to rip and then drag-n-drop the files rather than let WinAmp do the syncing.

I can copy from the device but not to. Will not synch either.

The err message reads: "Cannot copy <name>. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."

Am I doing something wrong or is my unit defective?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Hey Sundog: Sorry for your woes...I would try, in this order:

- resetting the device
- switching the USB port that the cable is connected to on the computer
- downloading and installing something like Winamp or MediaMonkey [both free] to see if you can manage the device properly [if you are on a Win PC].

If these fail to resolve your issue, I might want to return the device for a new one if possible.

cheers and good luck!

Thanks lestatar, for the reply.

I seem to have re-synched and I am able to continue loading. I was ripping with two PCs and then dragging the files with winexp, but apparently the unit got lost somehow.

Now with WinAmp 11, it appears to be happy. Also, I don't know much about Winamp. I found settings for file types where I could keep it from trying to synch all my pictures and videos, making the synching a lot less difficult. I don't like software that tries to do too much. I have not used Winamp although I have used PCs for many years. I guess I have much to learn. Loading my collection should be finished after today (about 120 CDs) I hope, so an occasional addition won't be too bad.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Sundog: Very glad to hear you got things going again.

I am no lover of WMP - however, if it works for you, awesome! Winamp and other apps like MediaMonkey, etc... can be amazing, but yes, some do require a bit of homework. Not a ton mind you, but you will have to do a little legwork initially.

Both Winamp and MediaMonkey [and many other music management apps] do indeed try to do a lot for the user. Fortunately, both of these apps can be "told" what to do and what not to do - there is a good deal of control, especially re: file associations, etc...

In any event, glad stuff working for you - Enjoy the S and stick around a bit. :-)
