If software is written for the device, is there any way to protect the code from being read either on the device (with some yet to be written 'reader' or with Notepad on the host system (when plugged in) or the like?
I understand that LUAC will do something with regard to the simulator only. |

LUAC only runs on the simulator because the player is unable to read directories and list the files in it (and might also be unable to compile, not sure about this).
But the resulting compiled file will work on the player as well. For example, the Squares app is compiled. That provides some security, but when one knows about decompiling, the code can still be read. |

Thank you for the clarification regarding LUAC. Yes I realise nothing is foolproof, what can be made can be unmade.

But is there really a good reason to protect your software? I mean as long as you're not gonna sell it, people can profit from your codes and even find and fix bugs.

It is painful when someone uses your soft to get money, happened to me. I had to make this project closed-source so that doesn't happen again...

It may not be money but simply that people (believe it or not) use your code and pass it off as their own work or technique or algorithm etc.
I do appreciate that people can help the author and vice versa but... And of course to get back to the point you raised, why the assumption that software cannot be sold? |

He meant benefit from it as in learning, he of course in no way meant that someone would make a profit in form of money from it.

Yes I understood that and I think we all thrive and learn from each other's code and it is great that people help each other, but if somebody came up with a 'killer' App then it might be worth protecting; I didn't mean don't share what you can, otherwise nobody would benefit.
