Default Replacing hard drive YH-J70J

Hi Everyone,

After many years of usage of my lovely YH-J70, the hard disk finally died. I would like to replace it but would like to know how far up i can go with the hard disk size. I browsed the forum and could only find a very old thread with a mention of a success story of someone putting a 60GB drive.

Today I can buy a 160GB drive (MK1634GAL) but I don't know if it will work.

Any ideas? Should I go for 80, 120 or 160GB?

thanks for your answer

salut lebellium,

yes, i have read that thread. this is exactly the one i was referring to in my first mail.

that thread took place in 2007. i revoked the question since I had some hope that a brave soul would have tried experimenting with larger disks since then. i see it's not the case.

so, this means that nobody ever tried to put a hard disk bigger than 60GB so therefore I am discouraged to try 80, 120, 160GB disks, right?

is there no other place to get information on that? do you know why does samsung never gives support for this device?

You only have to check 2 things:
-The connector
-The size

The original 30Gb Toshiba MK3006GAL has an ATA-6 connector.

The size is 1,8", more precisely 5.00 x 54.0 x 78.5 mm

I was also looking for a new HDD some years ago and here were my conclusions:
It's hard to find ATA HDD today and bigger HDD do not fit, there isn't much space inside the YH-J70.
At the time I only found a 40Gb HDD that fit. But that did not interested me. I wanted a 60Gb HDD and I did not find one compatible.
Only one old 60Gb HDD fit as I know someone who replaced the 30Gb HDD with a 60Gb in 2006. As far as I know, he is the single guy around the world who has a 60Gb YH-J70. Unfortunately he is not able to give me the HDD model reference.

So, good luck to find a current ATA small >80Gb HDD^^ But let me know if you find something interesting!
The battery of my J70 is almost dead so I stopped searching a 60Gb HDD, I'm waiting for 64Gb flash DAP

edit:
oh I found one I did not know:
Maybe it could fit :http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Pat...MKxx31GAxSpecs
80/120/250Gb!
