Random by Album

Is there anyway to have Rockbox pick a random album, of a specific artist or otherwise, and play it in the correct order? I've wanted to do this for awhile and can't seem to find a way.

Hmmm, don't think I have even considered this. I would kinda be interested to see if this is possible on RB/Fuze as well, though mostly for academic reasons. :-)

Select "Random" when browsing by the database.

Database>Artist>Random - This will select a random artist and list the associated albums (which you can then again select "Random" and have the player choose the album or you can pick it yourself from the available choices)

Database>Artist>{SELECT ARTIST HERE}>Random - This will select a random album from the artist you select.

Pick the first song and it will play the album in order by track number.

Hey Jabrow, thanks a ton! Just tried your steps above on my RB'd GigabeatF40 and indeed, it does seem to work, at least if I understand what the OP is trying to accomplish.

Shoulda known something like this was possible - those clever RB folks have thought of nearly everything.

Sorry, I didn't give you guys enough information. I meant that so it will pick a random album after another is finished and play through it in the proper order. That way I could start listening to an album of an artist I like and it picks another from the same, or maybe if set in some sort of option another, artist.

Then try Main Menu->Settings->Playback Settings->Auto-Change Directory->Random. I don't listen that way so I'm not certain about that but it may work.

I've tried that, it only works with file browser and the songs aren't in the correct order.

Nerdy, have you logged into the Rockbox IRC channel?

I have found for pretty specific feature questions like this those folks are pretty quick to answer over there :-D
