Hi, I've just about got the measure of RB now - brilliant. I have noticed that some folders created on the PC, import with that name and others lose it to be 'New Folder' in RB. I did this with two, both into the Music folder, both with a single 6 lettwer folder name. I have tried renaming the folder in the Clip+ whilst connected to the PC as well. Seems inconsistent in my brief trials.Bit of a pain renaming with titchy letters on the Clip!
Wassup, please? |

Either use correct ID3 tags before loading or use rb via folder browsing.

Thanks for the reply but I am using Folder browsing and even if the folder is empty (ie., no tags involved), it may still 'lose' the PC-given name to end up as 'New Folder' in the##MUSIC## \Music folder.

You are transferring the files in MTP mode. Booting to the original firmware and resetting to MSC should fix your problem.

Good point skip252, I didn't even think of that as I only use msc.

Ah! I have been connecting to the PC in automode in order to see the internal memory folder and thence the +rockbox, ##Music##, etc folders. If I ensure that I connect in MSC mode, the music folder I see appeared empty because it was empty - I can't see the ##Music'' folder which has my inconsistently named folders.
I can then copy folders and files to that which are then seen correctly in RB under Files\Music. I had been putting them into Files\##Music##. I can then reconn' to the PC and still see the folders under Music. I don't yet understand the difference - or what the ##Music## folder is for in this case? But - you made me experiment - thanks! |

I'm not sure what you mean about using automode in order to see the internal memory, as you can access the internal memory in whatever mode.
What you might be getting at, at least with the OF, is that your computer only can see the files that were transferred to the Clip in the USB mode that the computer then is connected to the Clip under. To avoid this issue, use one USB mode consistently, and avoid the Auto setting, which will start out trying to use MTP mode but then fall back to MSC mode, if necessary. To clean things up for you now, you could: transfer all your Clip's contents to your computer, and delete the content on the Clip; set the Clip to MSC mode; and transfer everything back. And then stay on MSC mode. (Note that if you update the OF, the Clip may reset to Auto mode--check it, and reset it to MSC.) |

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the automode is the worst thing that sandisk ever did to their firmware. Stick with msc as Mikerman already mentioned ...

Thanks, team, food for thought and interesting gen on automode. I think that I imagined that there was another mode, additional to MSC and MTP! It's becoming clearer.
