I can't find one anywhere.
Basically, I have a USB mp3 player that I want to be able to plug into a speaker dock. I have found a couple card reader speaker docks from wholesalers in china, but they seem to be more than what I was looking for. Really, what I want is a unit that will let me plug in my mp3 player via usb, and it has a play button, skip button, and stop button on it, and has a speaker. It seems like it would be simple to build, but knowing very little about electronics, I might be way off? |

None that I've seen and depending on the player, LO via usb might not be available.

"LO via usb might not be available."
I'm sorry, I don't know what "LO" means? Thanks! |

I've seen one in my barber's shop, though, but he told me he bought it from some shop in Sim Lim Square (electronics mall in Singapore, infamous for having 'fun' with prices and products.)
Edit : Quote:
Not necessary in this case if the speaker can scan for files on the USB player.

Edit: Not that you need LO to have it work, but you would need audio out via usb and not all players offer that. You can accomplish the same via headphone out jack and you should be able to find powered speakers or boombox that would work fine.

What TS is looking for here is a 2 in one, in a sense - a MP3 Player and a Speaker.

He does want a "speaker dock" after all, not just a speaker.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try to be a little more clear in my vision:
I have a USB mp3 player. The buttons are really small. I want to be able to plug it into something else that has really basic button controls via the USB jack. This something else needs to have a speaker or a line out in which I can put a passive speaker. The speaker doesn't need to get too loud which is why those cheap battery-free passive speakers will work fine. The problem I have is that I need bigger control buttons to be able to control the USB mp3 player... |

Philips used to make a reasonably decent dock that would work with iPods, SD cards, USB storage devices (including MP3 players) and CDs. You can still find them online. Amazon.com is one place still selling them.

Anyone ever try that Philips dock that was linked? Do I need any extra cables? Will a cable be provided to hook up my mp3 to the Philips dock? I would like to be able to listen to speakers that don't sound cheap and crappy but don't want to spend hundreds to do it.
TIA |

The Philips has a USB port. Use the cable that came with your player. Read the reviews on Amazon for opinions on output quality.
