I think it is best that you return the device still one question what are you using rockbox or original firmware?
If it is the OF then i think you should perform a firmware update... |

I installed RB on it, but ran all tests with an updated sansa firmware. I uninstalled RB and sent back to seller. He has a 4gb refurb for sale for considerably less, I think i'll take that and if need be replace the battery.
For sumone living in oz (who can't use amazon), anyone know of a good place for a replacement battery that HASN'T had too long a shelf life? I mean this for example: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Fit-SanDisk-S...item56371987f4 How can i be sure that this battery hasn't also seen a very long shelf life so no better than the one in the refurb or my old one? Also has anyone performed battery surgery on a fuze? was it tricky? what tools were required?

@brucebanner, baterry operation isnt tricky, but u sure have to sold the wires on the board, so if you are not familiar with soldering, take it to somebody who is good at soldering.
also, about the shelf life thing.if buying on ebay, make sure that you talk to the guy you are buying from. AND, his ratings are important you see. also, before you give him feedback, test your product totally. not working then open a dispute. ebay has now gotten serious about ratings and feedbacks (when i brought my Fuze from one of the best ebay sellers, i asked him and he said negative feedback hits the business badly, so thats why). moreover, for shelf life, its on your luck....also, why getting a refurb? maybe replace your battery man! check the manufacturing date, if its old, then for sure its the battery......now fuze has some wite screen of death issues, be scared of them in the sense that dont buy a refurb i guess. |

I ended up taking the brand new 8gb one back and instead getting a refurb 4gb one. It was half the price, I figured i'd be happy to swop the battery out of a cheaper model than buying a brand new one and STILL having to replace the battery.
I bought it locally from a guy here in oz (literally 5mins away). He has been fantastic throughout all my pains and I highly recommend him as a understanding passionate seller (he ships worldwide FYI). The refurb still has the same guarantee as a new one so I'm ok with it, besides I'm liking this red 4gb one lol.
