Can't delete Rockbox folder on Clip+ after uninstalling

So for my first week using the Clip+, I went back and forth using Rockbox and the official firmware. Today, after getting an database error (which unfortunately I didn't write down), I rebooted the player. Rockbox wouldn't boot because a file was missing and the official firmware wouldn't boot fully, so I plugged it in to my PC (where it did boot properly and start charging) and uninstalled Rockbox using the Rockbox utility. The utility told me it couldn't uninstall the bootloader so I needed to delete it by manually flashing the original firmware. That worked fine.

Now I'm back to just the stock firmware and it works fine, but the ".rockbox" folder in the root directory can't be deleted. It can be renamed and moved into other folders on the internal storage, but not deleted. I don't even get an error message. After I click "Yes" in the Windows "Are you sure you want to delete this folder?" dialog box, nothing happens. This still happened after rebooting both Windows (Vista 64 bit SP2 for what it's worth) and the Clip+. I also tried removing the read-only privileges from the properties box and the "attrib" command in int the command prompt (including an attempt as administrator), neither did anything.

Any idea how I can get rid of the folder (currently renamed "thatfolder")? I know it probably won't impede anything but I'd like to get rid of it.

P.S. Should I reinstall Rockbox? Any idea why it got corrupted or whatever?

If Windows won't delete folders, that usually means you have a corrupted file system.

On the Clip+? Any way to fix it? Factory reset?

Now that you mention that, in case it's relevant I figured that I should note that when I plugged my Clip+ back in after the firmware flash, it was in MTP mode, and while all of the folders & files on my SD Card could be viewed, it didn't show that they had taken up any space. I didn't have the same problem in MSC mode.

Try checking the disk with Windows.

Yup, CHKDSK worked. It found an unrecoverable error in the folder and after I let it convert the file to a folder, I could delete it.

Meanwhile, was this something that caused Rockbox to get messed up in the first place? Should I try Rockbox again?

You could try the current build, the memory corrupting issue has been fixed for me on my Clip+ and Fuze.
