MS and Nokia have just released joint press announcements confirming “signing of a definitive agreement” progressing their earlier announcement in FEB 2011 of a partnership.
Quite a lot of detail in the press release. My quick summary of the benefit/feature exchange of their core strengths to each other is: * MS BING ——> Nokia. * Nokia Imaging (aka cameras) ——> MS WP7 * Nokia Maps (OVI) —–> MS WP7 * Nokia Dev’s ——–> Free Access to WP7 Dev. * WP7 Apps+Games ——-> New Nokia combined Global Appstore (not WP7 exclusive) * Billing technology and integration ——–> WP7. * Nokia Paying WP7 Royalties ———> MS * MS paying the deal sweetner ———> Nokia. Volume deliveries of new handsets expected in 2012, with "heaps" of pressure on Nokia to realize a product release this year. Video and more details here:

I'm sticking with android - I had Nokias in the past.

When I finally sold my Zune HD, I can't express how liberated I felt to be done with that desktop client. I hate having a mobile computing device chained to another platform. There are MANY things about WP7 now and in the future that I like. A WP7 handset using some of Nokia's hallmarks, such as Carl Zeiss optics and superior build quality (but with MS dictating minimum specs, thankfully) would be almost enough to cause me to make the jump.
They need an on-device file manager, remove the need for desktop syncing (cloud sync is the present, not the future), and allow users to side-load apps (a major issue with some businesses as well). Pull this off and I would seriously consider Windows Phone as my next purchase alongside Android. As it is, WP7 is nothing more than Microsoft's iPhone.

Sadly, I think "nothing more than Microsoft's iPhone" is exactly what they're going for...
