Default Cygwin setup gives error

I want to do some minor changes to the Rockbox build I'm using, as I'm running Windows, I've download and use Cygwin. Everything went well But when I am trying to install Rockbox packages, Cygwin setup gives error can't open package database for writing: permission denied can you please help we are a begginer

EDIT: Thread moved.

Cygwin is pretty crappy, get VMware or Virtualbox, and a Linux distro of your choice - it's a much easier approach.

we are using rockbox sandisk & windows platform?
Are these other programs also for windows or linux?

I agree with dfkt. Vmware using the image we provide is the easiest way, with virtualbox being somewhat harder to setup (you actually have to run rockboxdev.sh!) but much nicer to actually use then vmware.
