Hey guys, as you all know, I got myself a Sansa Fuze 8GB + 16GB microSDHC, Rockboxed it w/ver. 3.7, and so far am enjoying it more than ever! However...I am still confused about playlists in Rockbox.....I've heard that its really simple to be able to create/edit/delete an unlimited amount of playlists on the device, but after looking through the manual, and playing around w/RB itself, I am still unable to find out how to actually create these things. I've never bothered to use playlists, but have always been curious about them, and would like to give them a try. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks guys for the help !

I know Rockbox only by reading the Rockbox for Fuze manual. It is said that:

Then I go back to the introduction of the manual where it is written: Quote:

McDougal, wrap your brain around these concepts:
- Every song you select to play in RB will automatically create a Dynamic Playlist, using all of the songs in the same folder as the one you chose; - Learn to use the CONTEXT function of RB controls [select a function and LONG PRESS]. For sure, skip252 and myself can assist you with playlists under RB. What specifically are you trying to do? Also, how is your music organized? I don't want to get into a long essay on this - better to teach you via concrete examples of music from your players and exactly how they are organized I think. Though, now that I think about it, I may be over-complicating things. HOpefully skip252 will chime in as he is a master of this stuff - he was the one who opened my eyes about playlists and Rockbox. Scratch that...look here for a similar thread McDougal...No reason to get carpal tunnel syndrome...Let's consolidate our efforts. http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59183 cheers and hang in there...you will figure it out ![]() -les

Seems like altogether too much work, this playlist thing! I still stand by my ways to listen....
1. Select an album and play it sequentially(especially when I get something new). 2. Shuffle one artist/band's music. 3. Shuffle everything on the device. 4. And the rare occasion I need a different kind of subset to listen to, I load a bunch of tracks singly into a folder, and shuffle that folder only. Easy as pie! No worries about "my playlist didn't sync over", etc., etc.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I'll take a look at the user manual again (and the site links)...after playing around w/RB a little last night I found a menu that looks pretty promising....

Okay, I figured out how to create my own playlist.....pretty simple to do. However, I can't find out how to save it. After I create it, it asks me to name it and save the playlist, but after I save it and go into "View Catalog", it says there are no playlists. I went into the files menu and I can see that it is on the root of the device, but when I click the file it says "Do you want to erase dynamic playlist?". Figuring out how to save them is the last step, and then I'll be all set
.

The Save location is the root of the player. When you select the playlist you've save it will erase the dynamic playlist and start playing the saved playlist if everything is right. If you want the saved playlist in the Playlist folder then long Select it to open the Context menu and use the cut and paste commands to move it to that folder.
Be sure to actually enter the folder before you attempt to paste the list you've cut from the root folder. If not you'll get an overwrite warning and the paste operation will fail. You won't lose the playlist it just doesn't move.

I enter a title for my new playlist. Then I press the play/pause button and it gives me a "xx tracks saved" message. Then I go to the Playlist Catalog and it's not there. Where the heck is it saved? How can I get it to the Playlist Catalog? There is absolutely nothing in the manual about this. |
