Default ChevronWP7 team official unlock tool (MS approved) coming soon

Yesterday, the ChevronWP7 team (that 1st hacked the WP7 OS and went on to meet with MS) has just announced a new initiative on their Blog.

They are launching, under the banner ChevronWP7 Labs, a MS sanctioned low-cost alternative tool to DEV-unlock your WP7 handset. This will allow App testing, sideloading circulated home-brew and other tweaks etc, without the need to pay the re-curring $99 MS Dev unlock fee.

It will be made available at a "small fee", anticipated to be a one-off - with more details coming soon.

Great work guys!

Also - catch some of the ChevronWP7 team again on this weeks WPDEVPODCAST here: http://wpdevpodcast.com/2011/06/17/e...go-down-under/

It's nice that they will provide this but I think it's a bit too late, most users that didn't like the locked down feeling of WP7 have moved to Android. I've wanted to move to WP7 for a while, this could be the ticket but I think I'll wait it out a bit since my device isn't too old yet and I don't have infinite money.

I think Mango and Nokia in QTR4 will light a fire under WP7 and it will begin to really take off. Then I expect this service will get heaps of takers...
