Haha, reminded me of the wife and I going through the airport the other day with our gear. An iPad 2, TouchPad, Bowers & Wilkins p5 headphones, Nook Color, Clip+, Dell Venue Pro, Sony Nex-5 camera with 2 lenses, Sennheiser headphones, and her Blackberry all stuffed into my Oakley Kitchen Sink backpack. She laughed and said a thief would have a field day with that backpack.

RIP. Time to repost an ancient pic. I'll never forget how my MD player left me wondering why in comparison most MP3 players appeared to suck so much, for the longest time.

They were rewritable. And I always found it astonishing how my little mini disc player could write mini discs...only downside was the Atrac-encoding. Took a lot of time (real time). And then the space-saving modes came only with the later models. But I loved the small remote controls they normaly featured. I'd really love one for my Sansa Fuze (...Sandisk, are you listening?!?)

JE510 rules! Mine's workin' since 96/97, sometimes as a player/recorder, sometimes as a competent DAC, sometimes as a headphone amp.

I have tow portables as well, but thei're not with me right now and I don't have photos.

Anyone knows if the MD cartridges will be discontinued too?

I had 2 MD players - a Sony NetMD N505 and a HiMD Sony MZ-RH710. Either one of them are up to standards with the DAPs we have today. In fact, right before I finally sold off the RH710, I did one last comparison with my player of choice at the time, the Sansa Fuze, and I swear that the sound was just a tad clearer. Whether this was just my imagination or some sort of nostalgic bias, I don't know, but the point is, sound-wise, those great players are still respectable today.

And am I right in recalling they were an earlier pioneer for metadata/track info etc - compared to other formats ? And also from memory (its been maybe 7years+ since I recorded anything) - but the quality of the D/A Converter on the JE510 was bloody awesome, recordings sounded really crisp and clear - despite the compression.
