There's no separate podcast section in it and it doesn't like low bitrate files. I threw some on it with drag and drop one day, and Windows gave me a pop-up saying something along the lines of "this file may or may not be compatible, would you like to convert?"
I chose yes, and it basically transcoded them to higher bitrates, and then they would play fine. I did this with Windows 7....don't know if XP would do the same thing or not. And again, since there's no podcast section, if you used shuffle mode, they'd come up in the mix with your music.

well i'm using linux. i'm assuming it's drag and drop as well? there is no way rockbox supports the player? worst case scenario is that i use my phone if i get the urge to listen to music mid podcast. can it show your music listed by folder? so could i in theory create a folder on it called podcast?

It will show folders. So as long as you don't use shuffle mode, that could work. The X-factor will be the bitrates of the various podcasts......you'll have to see which ones will play. I'm pretty sure 80kbps and up played fine without conversion.
And no, there's no rockbox for any Sony player.
