I am going to buy a X-Fi2 soon...
... is there anything that I should know or do once I get it? (Firmware hacks, cool apps, any other cool mods/hacks)

Read around on the forum in the more recent threads and you'll find the information you seek. There isn't much in terms of hacks, so that you can forget about, just install the latest firmware to get the best experience possible. Apps can be found in the development and download section of this sub-forum, check them out and provide feedback for the developers.
One thing to consider is that there are song limitation issues (8000 I believe) with the 64GB model, so if you only want music on it and no videos, avoid it.
