Windows 8 Keynote at Build. WOW!

Well Win8 will scale down to even smaller handheld devices - and one dot point referenced WP7 :P

Did you see the part where Steven Sinofsky showed that Windows 8 uses 281MB of RAM on a netbook? That's half of the RAM usage of Windows 7. That's pretty impressive.

It still looks like a bastardized version of what may come from an unholy union of WP7 and Win7, I say... The boot time and RAM usage are very slick, though.

I reckon this will be like WP7. Once people get their hands on it (literally lol) - they will never look back. Game changer!

Downloading now. From what I've read, still don't like the interface idea, but the performance updates look impressive. Now if they kept Win7's basic interface and added those performance updates ......

Hmm... Hm hm hm... Anyone know: can you make the Win7 part of the interface (that pops up on half the screen when you launch certain apps) the ONLY interface showing?

Edit: wow, I hate that I just said apps without even thinking about it... I prefer "programs"

The final release will feature both the standard interface from Win7, and the Metro UI. Switching between the two is as easy as hitting the Windows key on the keyboard (literally, that's all you do). This is a developer preview, and they want developers focusing more on the metro side of things, as not much as changed on the standard side.

Basically, Win8 is the OS I've been waiting for. Imagine having a Win8 tablet. Then, put it onto a keyboard dock, hit the Windows key, and it becomes like a Win7 laptop. Take it home and slide it into a USB/DVI/HDMI dock that is connected to your monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse, and it's now a desktop. Microsoft has just made an OS that can scale to almost any application. I'm awaiting the first quad-core intel variant so that I can use it as a tablet, but also to replace my home desktop and laptop. I don't expect the first versions in 2012 to do it, but by 2013 or 2014, I should be able to consolidate everything. I won't want an ARM-based version due to legacy compatibility.

Just got an Acer Iconia Tablet to put Win8 on. Hope to have some vids and info up in the next 48hrs or so
