The only devices with expandable memory I've ever owned have been cameras so far, so I'm curious about how this works with PMPs.
By memory, I mean storage and not RAM... If you add a big enough SD card, what's the maximum capacity of the 8GB model? and of the 32GB model? If you buy one with 8GB internal storage, and you can boost it up to 32GB just by chucking in an SD card, why are so many insisting on one with 32GB internal memory? Does the internal chip have some advantages over an SD card? By the way, the "where are these things?" thread about the (eventual) availability of the SGP has a lot of discussion about reviews, features, etc. that would be better placed in other threads. Just sayin' |

Because if you have 32GB internal, then you can add a 32GB card for a total of 64GB.

Also,at least on my 4.0 (with 32 GB internal and 32 GB external SDHC) the external SDHC gets scanned every boot-up and that takes a minute or two before you can really use the unit (so much for multi-tasking!).

I know it's a long-shot, and the answer is most-liekly "no", but does anyone know if it supports 64gb SDHC?
The manual for the 4.0 says " Quote:

As far as I know max capacity for SDHC is 32gb. Only SDXC has higher capacity, but SDXC cards don't work in SDHC devices. SDXC devices are backwards compatible to SDHC, but there aren't many of those around. |

The speed isn't all that important. Class 4 should be fine. The only benefit you could gain from a faster card is writing data to it faster, that is if the player CAN write that quickly.

I can't imagine there would be any reason to spring for a really expensive SD card unless your device records huge uncompressed HD video or something.
