I was just checking out samsung official page for the US version of the galaxy s player and i was looking at the specs and i noticed that the screen specs say
Galaxy S Wifi 4 Display 4.0” WVGA Super Clear LCD Galaxy S Wifi 5 Display 5.0” WVGA TFT LCD (Multi-touch zoom) Does this mean that the wifi 4's screen does not support multi-touch or is this just a typo? |

It's not a typo, it's just superfluous info that they added under 5.0, but not 4.0.

4 should support it seeing as 5 does

The gallery app on my 4.0 works fine with two-finger pinch and squeeze. The screen response time is very impressive as well. A multi-finger test app suggests the screen will only detect 4 fingers at a time though.

My old motorola xoom for example, could detect 16 different multitouch inputs at a time. |

Damn lol that's a bit ridiculous if you ask me, why put it there? It's not like anyone will ever use that feature, Where would 16 multi-touch inputs come in handy? |

Both are multitouch. 4.0 supports 5 inputs at the same time while the 5.0 only supports 4 at the same time.
That has already been said months ago but because of the US release I/we have to repeat most of that has already been said before...
