After having countless issues trying to get my recently bought clip+ to be able to use a 32GB micro sdhc card, I've been toying with the idea of installing Rockbox.
Previously I've installed the latest official firmware on my clip+ (01.02.16), which seems to have sorted out issues I was having with vbr mp3 audiobook resuming. However, when I try to install Rockbox (using the Windows utility), it tells me I need the firmware file - and won't accept the 01.02.16 version, latest it will deal with is the 01.02.15. I notice on the patch logs, there is a fix in place to deal with using 01.02.16, but does that mean I have to do everything manually to install Rockbox? Or is it OK, given the current OFW on my clip+, to let the Rockbox installation gui use the 01.02.15 OFW file? |

Go ahead and use the 01.02.15 OFW file if you need to.....I never bothered putting the .16 on mine.

Will that actually revert the OFW to 01.02.15 on my clip+ as part of that process - and does it matter whether it matches the OFW currently on the clip+?

It will revert it to .15, yes.....but that doesn't matter if you're going to be using Rockbox.

Well, it matters to the extent you might want to boot into the OF once Rockbox is installed, for whatever the reason . . . . But presumably, you're going to spend most (if not all) of your time under Rockbox. And, if I recall correctly, the version 16 firmware was not a major upgrade of the Sansa firmware, and so this likely would be but a little loss, if that.

And if you do, why shouldn't the previous version of the OF still work as it always did? |

Yes, you do have to use the OF for file transfer but not for anything else if you don't want. Unless you have a reason to use the OF all you need to do is turn the player off after the database refresh. When you boot again it will be to Rockbox.

Yep, the previous OF firmware version would be just fine for the transfer of files.

And that's all I need it for. I don't even deal with the Sansa database refresh anymore.

Is that safe? I keep all my files on a microsd besides podcasts and i just pop it out before connecting to pc but if i could just turn it off during refresh that would be awesome

Er, like an idiot I upgraded the firmware to 1.02.16 within the hour of getting my Sansa Clip+. Little did I know that Rockbox couldn't handle the .16 revision. Do any of you have the 1.02.15 firmware (it came with that on mine) so I can downgrade in order to rockbox the thing?
Please help me out, because it's not possible to download the older firmware from Sandisk from what I can tell
