I have a problem which I hope someone here can shed some light on.
Several times a week, when I press the On/Off button, the Samsung logo screen appears and the player hangs and does not proceed to the R0 screen. The only way out is to then force a close-down by holding the button for 9 seconds or by pressing a paper-clip into the reset hole. I am very, very happy with the player on all counts except this one. It is still under warranty and I sent it off to Samsung's repair centre in Southam. They have not told me what they did but from what I observe, they re-loaded the firmware, trashed the items I left on it (not that that was a problem) and reloaded all the Samsung sample files and manual. I am fairly sure about this as I had v1.24 on it and now it is v1.22 Can anyone shed any light on this matter please? Is there anyone with similar experiences and any hints on how I solve it? Thank you for taking the time to read and consider. |

How long are you waiting on the boot screen before reseting the player?

Thanks for the reply - I am waiting up to a couple of minutes on the initial Samsung screen. When the player starts normally, the Samsung screen appears for only a few seconds, then it disappears and reappears for a moment before the R0 screen appears. The whole process is over in under ten seconds. When the player hangs, it is ages and still nothing has happened so I reboot. |

Hum strange issue.
You can try the new firmware 1.25 but it looks like you have a problem with the bootloader. And only the Samsung after-sales service center can reinstall the bootloader with their recovery tool...

Hello,
OK - in the last week or so the player has failed to boot up only two or three times. The rest of the time, it is fine. I have made notes only for the second and third failures. The failure rate is currently around 5/10% of the number of times it is switched on. On both occasions, it has failed on the next switch-on following being connected to a computer: 1) Using v1.22 firmware, as it arrived back from being repaired. Immediately before having been connected to a laptop running Windows XP. Sole purpose for connecting was to charge the player from the laptop USB. I did not transfer any files to or from the laptop and ensured that I ejected the player before disconnecting. Switched it on within 5 minutes and the player hung on the Samsung screen. Forced a reboot and it worked fine thereafter. 2) Using v 1.25 firmware. Connected to a laptop running Vista. Deleted some files and folders from the player. Created some folders and added some files. Ejected the player before disconnecting. Switched it on within 5 minutes and the player hung on the Samsung screen. Forced a reboot and it worked fine thereafter. The player is set up as an MSC device. Any further ideas please? I guess from the general lack of postings (and the fact that a search of this forum and google reveals little) that this problem is not a common one. Clive |

Indeed, that's not a common issue, if I remember well, that's even the 1st time I hear of this issue...
I don't believe there is a solution, there is probably a software or hardware problem you can't fix yourself. Ask Samsung for a replacement

A simple reset of the device fixed it, although it keeps happening.
Sending it back to Samsung doesn't seem like the answer, as it doesn't sound like they can fix it. Maybe the SD card is locking it up, I'll try it without for a while. |

Hi,
I've been having the same problem except mine freezes after the 'Samsung' Screen (in the middle of the R0 screen); the sound just stops midway and, you know how the R0 sign shines, it just stops and turns off. Then I try to turn it back on again and the thing runs a 'system check' and then it freezes again. I tried turning it on without the microSD and it didn't work, and once i pressed the reset button with a toothpick and the screen flashed just before turning off. And, after the first time it froze, it never successfully turned back on again... ![]() I have no idea how to fix it and am desperately looking around (Help!) |
