here is humorous although you don't realize it. If you had asked "How do I get this included in Rockbox?", someone would probably have pointed you to this.

It might make more sense on players with real time clocks (some have that). I don't know that there would be many users for such a feature, but lots of digital watches have settings to beep on the hour and/or on the half hour, so the request doesn't sound completely weird.

I didn't say the beep on the hour request was weird and neither has anyone else here. There was a request for more info, a minor joke then a personal observation. The response OP's was essentially "Don't question me or my motives, troll".

I have a tremendous amount of respect for WalkGood, his knowledge and his willingness to share that with members. His is the model I consider most when I post here.

I have had some spirited disagreements with Mikerman but we have always remained respectful of one another. That he has dozens of posts that were followed up by thanks from the person he helped speaks volumes. Saying that either of them were trolling is highly inappropriate in my opinion.

I think that has to mean, RB can access the real time clock if one is available. Not all PLAYERS have the feature. I don't think the Sansa Clip has it. I'm pretty sure the M200 doesn't. Rockbox could keep track of elapsed time from when you boot up the player, and beep once an hour starting at bootup, but it's more useful to beep at exactly 2pm, 3pm, etc. In order to do that the player has to know what time it is, and not all of them have the hardware for that.

All Clip versions have a realtime clock. They're just not visible in the stock firmwares on the Clip and Clip+. The m200 v4 has a realtime clock too (according to a Rockbox developer), I don't know about the older versions.

The Clip+, Clip Zip, Clip, Fuze, E2xx series Sansas all have real time clocks. None of them keep precise time but there is a clock.

Realtime clocks have been standard on pretty much all mp3 players for about a decade now. You have to go back to the really ancient stuff to not have one.

No trolling on my part, and no offense taken (but maybe I didn't understand the original poster's response above!). (And anyway, I'm too tall to be a troll. )

I just had been curious as to why someone would want an hourly beep (and then I responded to WalkGood's jesting)--but I guess it's no different than a Grandfather or cuckoo clock chiming the hour (which would drive me mad as well).

heaven-id13, perhaps you can interest a Rockbox developer like you to add the feature. Certainly suggest it at the Rockbox site, if it interests you.

Meh idk, I mean it was a bother yeah but I found it to be a very good way to keep track of the time without having to actively lift my arm.
