Default Nokia Lumia 900

Ok, quick question. I can get the Nokia Lumia 900 from Walmart for $49.99 as an upgrade for my line. I think it's a great deal,...but I'm on the fence about it. Should I pull the trigger or not? I know all the details about the darn thing, but I'm hesitating. HELP!!!

If you want a windows phone, it's likely the best one available. Obviously, at the moment it doesn't have the same number of apps as ios or android, but for more typical needs it should suffice.

However, both Nokia and Microsoft are working to bring in some of their own services to compensate, until more developers move toward the windows platform. For instance, Nokia has its drive program which they claim works as well or better than Google Maps (haven't tried it myself so I can't tell you more). And Microsoft has integrated its Zune and x-box features into the phone, so it should make for a decent gaming and music platform.

If you're on the fence, maybe head over to an AT&T store (or walmart) and mess around with the lumia 800. The 900 will have the same OS, except with a bigger and better screen (higher resolution and RBG) and more snappy performance.

Good idea about testing the Lumia 800 out, thanks. I'll do that tomorrow at lunchtime.

I've haven't used Windows Phone at length. But it does have the backing of Microsoft, and Im positive they are commited to making a mark in the mobile space. I do think Nokia knocked the hardware design out of the park with the 900. It looks amazing.

The resolution is the same on the 800 and 900, bigger screen on the 900 though. Not much else changes.

Oops, I didn't notice that the resolution was the same. Good call.

However, I do stand by my original statement that the 900 has a better display since it uses an RGB matrix rather than the more miserly pentile display the 800 has. Moreover, the 900 apparently has 24 bit color depth vs 16 bit on the 800 (just reading off a table here, not sure how that would translate to real world usage).

Besides that, the 900 also sports a front facing camera that's missing on the 800. Processors are both 1.4 Ghz, though the 900 uses a Qualcomm APQ8055 + MDM9200 while the lumia 800 uses a Qualcomm MSM8255T. Someone else will have to tell you what difference, if any, the slight change in processors means.

I didn't get to test the 800 out today, it was a rough one. But, from all I've seen, I really like this puppy!!!

Its probably the MSM8255T without the connectivity chip/modem (according to the Snapdragon page on wiki). The MDM9200 is probably the LTE modem.

Reviews for the Lumia 900 from Engadget, Gizmodo, PocketNow, WPCentral, CNET, AnandTech, BGR, and The Verge are in. Most of them are positive with the exception of the Verge which is clearly biased. They were split on the camera quality. Some like it, but others were disappointed with it.

It's on the way,...and now I'll maybe sell my Atrix 4G with Laptop Dock. I won't get much,...maybe I'll end up giving it to my oldest son instead. Or, just keep it and see how good I.C.S. is when the update for it comes out.

And, the fact that 99% of the reviews are positive was the deciding factor. Thanks peeps,...I'll keep you posted!!!

Ok, it arrived today, and it looks great. It's a snappy beast, and the screen is just gorgeous!!! I have to call AT&T to get it to access my network, as the IMEI isn't in the system yet for my line of service. I'm feeling a little under the weather ATM, so I haven't called.

I'll give a little more info after I get it up and running correctly, and I'm thinking I may need to hit up the AT&T store to transfer all my contacts over. It's worth it so far, and I can't wait to load up some tunes and hear how it sounds. And NO, I'm not gonna be one of those guys who amps this thing,...unless they make the right accessory. And we know for SURE that that AIN'T EVER gonna happen.

OK, I got the dreaded "data issue",...I have to wait till Monday for the software fix, or take it to AT&T for a replacement. I'll wait till Monday. Bummer!!!

Be sure to keep track of apps you miss coming from Android, as I'm sure will be in a list of complaints if you have any...

I really only play 2 games : Angry Birds and Bejeweled. I should actually be just fine. Besides, I get Nokia Drive for FREE - big plus to me now that summer travel is about to start soon.

C/O Engadget: the data issue software fix is now available, 3 days early. When I get over the flu (bummer ) I'll download it and get my new phone up & running.

How so? I highly doubt that applies to me.

Nokia is giving a refund on the cost to all who buy one until April 21st. I'm not sure if that's a worldwide thing. Check to see if it applies to you as well.
