How does variable speed playback work?

I've been listening to podcasts on doggcatcher on my phone unfortunately it's hard to hear when driving in my car. When listening on rockbox the volume is much more hearable. Thing is I can't figure out how variable speed playback works. Here is a screenshot of my player. I can't tell whether i'm listening at 150% or 101.5%. Can someone help me out?

In this particular screen, speed/pitch shift should be given in semitones (1/12 octave, 100 Cent). 1.5 semitones or 150 Cent computes to about 109%. You can click through other options, including %, with the Home button.
