Hi there!
I recently bought a Sony Walkman NWZ-A866 and I have the following problems: 1) I use Ubuntu Linux and I have a huge collection of mp3 files, all tagged and with embedded cover art in jpg format. Drag and drop works flawlessly but for some albums the cover art is not displayed. I tried deleting and re-embedding the picture, I tried resizing it but no matter what I do it just doesn't work for some albums. 2) I have lots of mp3's with greek tags. No tags are displayed correctly In some cases, most letters are displayed while others (always the same letters by the way) get replaced by squares. In other cases, all letters are replaced by question marks. There is also a third case, where all characters become "chinese". I suppose it has something to do with the encoding. Which is the "correct" one? Is there any way I can find out the encoding of the tags?Any help will be greatly appreciated! |

I have an A865, and with regard to (1), I have found that it is very picky about images and embedded id3 tags:

Thanks for the answer!
I think I found a solution to both problems: 1) Walkman doesn't like ID3 tags other than ID3v2.3. I have a lot of files with ID3v2.4 and there are problems. As for the images, I use EasyTAG and set image type as "cover". It always works. 2) Only the unicode character set can be displayed. Unfortunately, it still lacks support for some greek characters. My old Zen Vision:M, on the other hand, supports almost any codepage. I suppose Sony doesn't care enough to fix the problem. |

That post is inaccurate. The A866 is also sold by Sony.de. They're part of Sony EU. Means it's meant for that market.
