Sony E465 Hold Switch Not Working?

I have a Sony E465. I love the unit, but I have one thing which might be a problem with it. Whenever I turn the unit off and set the hold switch to the hold position, the unit still turns on with the touch of any button under the screen. Is this normal? I thought the hold switch was supposed to prevent accidentally turning on the unit. The hold switch does prevent any buttons from having any effect while the unit is playing, so I'm not sure if I have a defective unit or not. Thanks in advance.
